On the rocks to the south of Island Bay, Wellington, last week, a seagull’s nest with two eggs in it was discovered. Nests of this kind are not usually found so close to habitation, and they are mostly built in inaccessible places. The eggs were slightly' smaller than those of a hen, and the nest was of a very rough character. The record temperature of 74 degrees was recorded in the Napier Municipal Baths on Saturday, says the TelegraphThe temperature in the baths during hot weather is usually about 68 degrees, and, on rare occasions, it has been known to reach 70. When swimming in the .baths commenced this season, Jhe .water was at 54 degrees. The explanation of the unusually high temperature recorded on Saturday apparently lies m the tact that owing to the work of cffectin 6 repairs it’has been impossible to change the water in the pool for a week, with the result that it is not only warm, but slightly dirty.
