ELECTRICAL DISTURBANCE
DOWNPOUR IN MANAWATU LIGHTNING KILLS FIVE COWS. PINE THEE THROWN FIFTY YARDS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Dec. 21. An electrical storm was experienced: in tho country districts adjacent to Palmerston North yesterday morning, there beino- a phenomenal downpour between Ta&orea and Rangiotu. At Kopane five cows, the property of Mr. T. Leen, were killed, presumablyfrom concussion through lightning, for an investigation failed to disclose signs of a direct strike. At Kairanga a large pinus insignis tree was struck, portions beiiig thrown 50 yards away, some landing in the garden of a private residence and destroying valuable shrubs.
