£5000 SALVAGE CLAIMED
WRIT SERVED ON STEAMER WELLINGTON BOARD’S ACTION. EAST COAST MISHAP RECALLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An event unique in the history of Wellington and which aroused much interest on the waterfront occurred this mornino- when the Wellington Harbour Board ‘served a writ on the Richardson steamer Pakura claiming £5OOO salvage. The Pakura etruck an unknown rook while approaching the Tora landing on the east coast on November 7. She was towed off the rock the following day by the board’s tug Toia, which then towed her to Wellington. The Pakura was extensively damaged and spent three weeks on the patent slip undergoing repairs. She left hei e on Tuesday on her first trip since the mishap and returned to Wellington this morning from Gisborne. Shortly after arrival the writ was solemnly attached to the Pakura’a foremast. The writ was a wordy legal document of extreme length.
