WATERSIDERS’ DISPUTE
TAIROA SAILS SHORT-LOADED ARGUMENT OVER THE WEATHER. ALLEGATION OF GO-SLOW TACTICS The disputes committee of shipping authorities and. waterside workers had gtill reached no decision last night regarding the stoppage of work on the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Tairoa at the port of New Plymouth on Friday. Loading was continued on Saturday, however, though independent observers alleged that the men, while quiet .and orde.rly, had apparently adopted a '•'go-slow’’ policy. The Tairoa sailed at six o'clock Last night but had to leave behind one-third of her butter and onethird of her cheese allotments. It is understood that the shipping authorities have refused to pay ,any wages for the period of the stoppage of work. The watersiders claimed that the weather for a time on Friday morning was such as to warrant the gangs ceasing work. The shipping authorities claimed that considering the men were working under cover work should be continued. A It was alleged that on Saturday the men loaded only half the usual quantity of produce loaded during the normal day’s work,
