WHAREHUIA SCHOOL YEAR ENDS. A concert, presentation of prizes and a dance to celebrate the break-up •of the Wharehuia school Were held in the : Mr. J. McAllister, Stratford, a member of the Taranaki Education Board, presented the prizes, each child receiving a book; \ Two medals were won by Horace Franklin, one first for condition and one second for dairy type in the Jersey-' Ayrshire Section of the calf-rearing com-. petition; Darcy Pittains received . a medal for second for condition, in the Polled/ A-ngus-Friesian section. Both were presented with special prises (books), presented by Mr. Rex Watsdn for awards in the school judging comHosking and Reg. 'Wellington won attendance certificates. CROYDON SCHOOL BREAKING-UP. A large number of parents and friends gathered at the Croydon school bn Friday afternoon for the breaking-up. The afternoon was fine and an enjoyable time was spent by all. Mr. Vesty, chairman of the committee, presented the proficiency certificates, and good attendance certificates to Len Crosby, who has attended for six years without missing a day, Clyde Goble and Ivan Crosby five-year certificates, Ken Crosby four-year certificate, Noeleen Crosby three-year certificate, Edna Capper, Cliff Capper and William Hooker two-year certificates, Eric Goble and Evan Capper ohe-year certificates. An exhibition of wrestling was given by two local wrestlers, Redge Goble and Laurie Fryday, the match being refereed by Mr. L. Fisher, Midhirst. Fryday secured a fall in the first round with a step-over toe-hold.. Goble secured a fall with a Boston Crab in the second round. The match whs drawn.

The pupils entertained with folk dancing, a canoe poi by all the .nupils and step dancing by P. Jonson, Miller, N. Crosby and P. Alexander. Credit was duo to Miss C. E. Lewis (teacher) for the way she had trained the children. .Results of the sports are: — Flat races: Class L, Tommy Vesty 1, Teddy Hunwick 2. Class 5, Pat Alexander and Mary Miller dead-heat. Boys’ sack race; Len Crosby 1. Mei> vyn Prince 2. Girls’ sack race: Phyllis Jonson and Edna Capper dead-heat. Basketball throwing competition: Phyllis Jonson 1, Noeleen Crosby 2, Dorothy Vesty 3. Pillow fighting: Class 1, Joan Crosby. Class 2, Clyde Goble. Class 3, Roy Vesty. Class 4, William HOojcer. Class 5, Tommy Vesty.
