PATEA A DEFEATS ELTHAM A. ®UNNERS"UIP TO HAWERA. By defeating Eltham comfortably by 10 matches to 3 on Saturday q.t Patea, th# Patea Club completed a very consistent inter-club season, .being runnersup to Hawera, who win the champion--8 niVith the exception of one men’s doubles, Pa-tea won all the men’s ma-tehes-rive of six. The Eltham top pair, McGregor and H. Wills, defeated G. Wills and Robinson, the latter being disappointing. In the singles, the chief match was between Torrens (Patea’s third man) and McGregor, Eltham. Torrens won two sets to one, thus becoming top of the South Taranaki ladder. Cooper (Eltham) found Thompson again too steady. The latter lias won all his inter-club matches without the loss of a, set this season. G. Wills, Patea, had a close contest with Morrison, winning by 2 sets to 1. This was the only set Will# has lost in the A grade matches. In the doubles, Torrens and Thompson, by defeating Cooper and Morrison (Eltham). won all their Inter-club matches. In the ladies’ matches, Miss Wood (Eltham) did well to beat Mrs. Baker, Patea. Mrs. Baker and Miss Gibbs were too strong for Misses Wood and Walker, Eltham.-Patea won both ladies’ doubles and two singles of three played. In the mixed doubles Eltham lost two matches, while two were unfinished. Play was delayed for about an hour owing to a slight summer shower. Wills lost to H. Wills and McGregor 4—6, 5 —6, Thompson and Torrens beat Cooper and Morrison 6—4, 6—-1.

Ladies’ singles: Mrs. Baker lo®t to Miss Wood 4—fi, Miss Gibbs beat Miss Walker 9—B, Miss Bourke los-t to Miss Townsend 6—7.

Ladies’ doubles: Mrs. Baker and Miss Gibbs beat Misses Wood and Walker 9—4, Misses Carey and Bourke beat Misses Brooker and Townsend 9 —B.
