HOME GARDEN COMPETITION
JUDGING AT CENTRAL SCHOOL DOUGLAS HEATLEY’S CHAMPIONSHIP ■REPORTING on the Central School home gardens Mr. Short reports:—A very successful start has. been made with these young boys, and if the experience they have gained is carried over into their next year’s plots, the boys cannot but have gained most beneficial experience. The best plots seen were highly commendable indeed, some excellent results being achieved. The weakest of the plots merely showed that the boys were at a loss in the absence of imita ive models and sympathetic encouragement from their parents. Having tackled the job this year and having seen what other boys gardens are like, these boys will be able to improve very much on thenfirst efforts. . ~ ~ Notebooks are modelled on good lines and are very highly satisfactory records of observations made. Most of the weakest ones have some distinctive merit.
The plot which was the combined effort of Hugh and. Jeff Moss was a specially meritorious garden and is awarded a special certificate.
