COMMUNIST SENT TO PRISON MADE ALLEGATION OF PERJURY. MAGISTRATE TAKES GRAVE VIEW. SEQUEL TO WELLINGTON RIOTING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. i Wellington, Last Night. Philip Gordon Brazier, well-known Communist, was sentenced to-day to imprisonment for three months on uttering a criminal slander against Inspector Lander. The charge stated that Brazier said in public, “This big, heavy-jowled individual stood up in the -box and swore he carried no baton or weapon of any kind; now this is a deliberate lie,” or words to that effect. The affair rose out of proceedings following a disturbance in the Parliament grounds on - September 16.. Mr. E. Page, S.M., said an allegation of perjury against a police officer was a very serious matter tending to undermine public confidence in the police.
