METHODIST BANQUET. CONFERENCE PRESIDENT’S VISIT. Approximately 140 were present at the banquet held in the Methodist hall on Monday night in honour of the Rev. E. D. Patchett, president of the Methodist Conference 1931. Mr. Patchett was formerly minister at Inglewood. He came to the town 26 years ago- and held that appointment for three years, it being one of his first appointments. Since then Mr. Patchett has made advances in the Methodist ministry until at present he is president of the Methodist Conference and in that capacity is visiting the various circuits. During his stay in Inglewood 26 years ago Mr. Patchett was a good tennis player and was top of the Inglewood ladder. The hall for the evening was decorated and all arrangements were made by the ladies guild. A feature of the evening was the hymn “On Missions” composed by the R<ev. A. A. Bensley, also a former Methodist minister at Inglewood, and set to music by Mr. M. Sutherland, Inglewood. The programme was: Pianqforte solo, Mrs. Jemison; hymn, “And are we yet Alive”; toast, “The Methodist Church of New Zealand,” proposed by Mr. R. G. Surrey, responded to by Mr. Patchett; hymn, “The Church’s one Foundation”; toast, "The Methodist Church in Inglewood,” proposed Iby Mr. G. Smith, responded to by the Rev. H. V. Utting; solo, Mr. W. J. Smith; toast, “The President as a former minister of Inglewood church,” proposed by Mr. M. Sutherland; violin solo, Mr. D. McAllister; toast, “The choir,” proposed by Mr. D. Wright, responded to by Mr. M. Sutherland; part song; the choir; toast, “Absent Friends,” proposed by Mr. D. T. Egarr; hymn, “Peace, Perfect Peace”; toast, "The Bilble-classee,” proposed -by Mr. G. W. Kirk, responded to by Miss G. Fawcett; recitation, Miss E. Wright; toast, “The Ladies’ Guild,” proposed by Mr. W. J. Smith, responded to by Mrs. H. V. Utting; toast, “Home and Foreign Missions,” proposed by the Rev. C. Eaton, district chairman, responded to by Mrs. D. Wright; hymn, the choir, “On Missions,” the Doxology. CYCLE CLUB’S ROAD RACE. The folowing handicaps have been declared for the Inglewood Cycle Club’s road, race to Midhirst and back to-mor-row: Bounds and Peters, lOmin; J. Trigger, T. Trigger and Hanwright, 'Bmin; Grayhain and Smith, smin; T. Standing, Burke, Codd and Ballantine, 4min; L. Standing and R. Adlam, 2min; F. Belk, iinin; O. Belk, scratch.

GENERAL ITEMS. The Inglewood branch of the Plunket Society held a successful copper trail and mart on Saturday. The Christmas cake was won by Mrs. H. Bennett, Lincoln Road, and the Christmas dinner by Mrs. I. P. Grant. The financial results exceeded all expectations. The Inglewood Amateur Swimming Chib proposes holding a children’s swimming carnival on December 17 for all the'’schools in the Inglewood district. The entries will close on Tuesday. There is to b® no fee for nomination.
