SYDNEY’S BIG BRIDGE
MOTORISTS OPPOSE TOLL. COST MAY EXCEED £10,000,000. The National Road? and Motorists’ Association in Sydney has decided. to pfbtest Emphatically against the imposition of a toll on thq Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was pointed out that if a toll of is was put on the bridge the cost to a Nortli Shore motorist who drove to town edch week day would be more than £3O a year. Th® proposal to levy a toll was discussed at the association ■ council meeting. The Mayor North Sydney; Alderman Primrose, said that the railway authorities favoured a charge because they had placed thqmselves in the awkward position of ' over-estimating the railway bridge receipts. After the first 12 months these'were expected to yield a profit of about £500,000 a year, but it was now realised that. this was excessive. Mr. R. V. Hodgson suggested that unless the motorists protested emphatically the Governirient would be encouraged to put a toll of even more than Is on them. Alderman McMahon said he feared that before the job was through the cost would be considerably more Jlian £10,000,000. i " x._
