DAIRYING IN DENMARK

CONTROL OF NATIONAL LINES. NEW ZEALAND’S COMPETITOR. Rotarian R. W. D. Robertson, president of the New Plymouth Rotary Club, was the chief guest at the Hawera Rotary Club luncheon yesterday, and Mr. P. Thomson, Mayor of Stratford, was also a guest. Mr. Robertson gave an address on dairying and agricultural matters generally in . Denmark. The information was gained from personal observation and contact with those in the position to give official records. The opinion of the speaker was that the preferential tariff for Empire produce would require to be a very stiff one to keep the Danish dairy produce from being a serious competitor on the British market with that of New Zealand. The system of co-operation was so perfect and so loyally supported that it was only by the agreement of 90 per cent, of those affected that any compulsion was exercised upon the remaining 10 per cent. The national spirit impregnated the whole industry, all branches of which were directed by an agricultural council of 12 members, through whom all approaches to the Government were made. A frictionless system run on democratic lines and made perfect by, the loyalty of the agriculturists was the result of tvro centuries of effort and wes a magnificent success.
