REFEREE STOPS FIGHT
FAIRHALL GIVEN VERDICT.
UPROAR AMONG SPECTATORS.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. •' Timaru, Last Night.
A professional boxing.contest to-night between Tommy Fairhall (Timaru) and Ted Morgan (Wellington) ended sensationally in the sixth round, the referee stopping the fight. In the early rounds Morgan was aggressive but found Fairhall most elusive. Fairhall appeared to be content to hold his ground and await a favourable opening, which came half way through the sixth round. He crossed a left to Morgan’s chin and then swung a right, the welter champion going to the board for the count of nine. Fairhall went after his man and again sent him to the boards, the referee stopping the fight. Morgan danced round the ring protesting with the house in an uproar. Hooting and booing continued for some time and Morgan was given an ovation as he left the ring.
