ELECTION OFF

YEAR’S DELAY PROBABLE REFORM IN LINE WITH UNITED •4. , | —— EARLY STATEMENT LIKELY LEADERS TO FIX DETAILS COALITION’S FATE IN DOUBT I ——w (By Wire-—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. As a sequel-to the United, caucus, at which pressure, was put on the Prinft Minister as leader to insist on the postponement of the general election, the matter was discussed to-day at a meeting of the partner party in the Coalition Government, As a.result, it is said. Reform opinion has hardened in line with that of the United members and it ifi understood to be now definite that the election will be postponed. ■ There seems to be wide agreement on the necessity of the term being at least sufficient to enable the coalition to see the fruits of its labours and the opinion of members appears to be that this will :take six to twelve months. Final details are to be worteii out by the two leaders, and it is expected an announcement of the Government’s decision, together with an indication of the legislative proposals to give effect to the postponement, will be not long delayed. Apparently no decision has been reached yet as to the advisability of the Coalition Government going to the country as such or as two rival partiesOpinion is well divided on this issue at the moment and the decision will ,depend probably on expedience, according to the position of the country , when the time' approaches for seeking the vote of. the people..
