ACTIVITIES IN NEW PLYMOUTH.
ANNUAL REPORT SATISFACTORY.
Following is the apnual report of the New Plymouth Ladies’ Life-Saving and Amateur Swiinmiiig Club, to be presented to the club’s annual meeting tonight:— 1 . • . ' ' During the year the club. has done, a fair amount of useful work in encouraging swimming and life-saving. - The Brodie Cup (life-saving land drill) competition at the Girls’ High School was judged by Misses Dowling .and Barlow and "the high standard exhibited by the. competitors (comprising in. all over 100 girls): .atjgurs: very’ the of life-SaVing in New. Plymouth, lhe Brewster Shield for’ cdmpetition between Girl Guide teams throughout Taranaki . was organised and judged by Miss DoAlinb and Mrs- Hobart. Several Guides were also exapiined for swimming badges. Some of the club members were able to render assistance with coaching during the “learn to swim”' week conducted, during the. season for the benefit of primary school-children; The'annual carnival was held at the municipal baths on March 2 and was well attended. Some good, raejng was witnessed end ■ two Svafer-polo matches provided interesting ’A dance was hejd at the Kawaroa ’ bungalow • later ip the evening when 'the prizes were presented by the. Mayor, Mr. H. V..s. Grifgthp. ■ The club is. indebted, to, all w’ho ?..cted as-'ofificiai|i ‘ ■ "j - ' During the winter two were held at “Stfadholme,” Ipt by M-jss Dowling for the purpose, when progressive games and music provided pleasant entertainment. . .-y-
: The financial position may be regarded as satisfactory although the figures for the year show expenditure exceeding receipts by £3 0s 8d- Included iu this amount, however, is a donation of 10s to the earthquake fund, 1 so that actually the expenditure exceeds receipts by 10s gd ’only.
