PUNGAREHU NOTES
TENNIS CLUIB AND GENERAL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Pungarehu Tennis Club held its annual meeting and a large crowd of members was present. Officerfl for the ensuing year were elected, members regretting that Messrs R. B. Fleming, retiring president, and W. J. Lawrence, were not available for re-election. Mr. R. B. Fleming had held the post of president for. a number of years, and during that time had done a great deal to ensure the success of the club. He was accorded hearty thanks for his eervices. The following officers were elected: — ■President, Mr. J. W. Priest; secretary, Mr. B. Brophy; treasurer, Mr. F. E. Grinlinton; club captain, Mr. A. Roots; selection committee, Messrs J. W. Priest, R. B. Fleming, W. Priest, B. Brophy and A. Roots; general committee, Mrs. Priest, Miss M. Brophy, Miss I. Gray, Messrs T. Brophy, G. Gray, J. Duggan and M. Lawn. Many improvements had been made at the courts, it ‘ was reported, and many members had been practising. It was hoped to have the official, opening at an early date. Before that time, owing to the large number of members, it was hoped to have laid down another court. The Ladies’ Basketball Club held their end of year aeeting, and it was disclosed that the finances were in a satisfactory state as the result of the dance held a short time ago. A local fisherman, Mr. R. B. Fleming, was out early with the rod on October 1 and caught 25 trout in the Kapoaiaia River in a short time. Mr. Fleming usually manages to bo well up in the tallies for the district. The fish were a fine average patch. Mr. H. Roberts caught several, one of which weighed over 41b. The' whitebait catches in the rivers so far have not been very great.,
