LEPPERTON NEWS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) No one will bo missed as much in Lepperton as Mr. Harper Lepper. He was undoubtedly the leader of the district, and the respect in which he was held was very evident on Friday when the funeral took place. About 40 cars joined the funeral procession from Lepperton, besides which a number of Leppertonians were at Te Henui. The Lepperton branch of the Red Cross held a very successful afternoon on Tuesday. The function took the form of a ‘‘bring and buy” afternoon. The stall was well filled with a great variety of articles and commodities which sold well. Mrs. Brown, New Plymouth, gave a play-reading and as an encore an elocutionary item. As a result of competitions Miss Peggy Waldie won a hand-painted organdie “throw over” and Miss Honnor won a large iced fruit cake. During afternoon tea, for which a small charge was made, Mrs. P. Wellington, president of the branch, thanked all present for their patronage. Sister Corkill congratulated the branch on the splendid showing made that afternoon. As a result of the function nearly £S was realised. On Saturday Lepperton seemed to be deserted. All roads evidently led to Pukekura Park on the occasion of the Australia—Taranaki football match. Butterfat prices, Coalition Governments etc., were all for the time being forgotten in the excitement of Rugby.
