HAWERA HOSPITAL’S FINANCES. — / MEMBERS EXPRESS PLEASURE. Five months of the present financial year have already elapsed and the Hawera Hospital Board is still within its estimates. Careful handling of the board’s finances have proved effective, and members yesterday expressed satisfaction with the position, which they hoped would be maintained until the end of the year. > The medical superintendent, Dr. Cairney, that' there were 74 patients in hospital at the beginning of August, and 64 at the end of the month. He had been a patient in the hospital and had found the food excellent, the administration of a high standard and the work of the doctors exceedingly well done. Tne matron, Miss C. Hunter, after reporting on staff matters, stated that a saving of £22 Is had been effected by making over a year’s supply of marmalade. 1 Mrs. M. Two of the best wrestlers in New Zealand have been engaged for the bout at Hawera to-morrow night, and Pencheff and Buresh can be expected to give a good display. Both' are colourful grapplers with impressive records. Pencheff has come off best in his bouts with McDougall, a high-clasS mat-man, and has done well against Alley. Alley is the man who made wrestling in New Zealand, and two draws and an unlucky loss is a fine record for tho Bulgarian to have against him. Though perhaps not so strong as Lurich, Pencheff is a much more scientific scissors expert, and he also uses the key-lock with better effect than most. His displays so far in Taranaki have made him popular. Buresh has not wrestled in the province before, but comes with high credentials. His two draws with Pencheff show that he is in the first flight. BUILDING IN HAWERA. INCREASED ACTIVITY RECENTLY. .There has been rather more building activity in Hawera recently than for some time. Permits for work estimated to cost in tho aggregate £lOB4 were issued last month. Altogether 12 permits were issued. The largest amount was £635 for the erection of a slipp. There were two permits for extensive alterations, one for £2OO and the other for £lOO, the balance being largely for the erection of garages and similar buildings.
