UNEMPLOYED ALLOCATIONS
MONEY NOT SUFFICIENT. ELTHAM MEN SUFFERING. “The position is,” said the Mayor of Eltham, Mr. I. J. Bridger, to a Daily News representative, “that unemployment allocations are being reduced each week and th? amounts so allocated are less than those required to meet the work to which the number of unemployed is entitled to under the Act. This places the local authorities and unemployment committees in an invidious position necessitating unfair discrimination in the cutting down of some men below sustenance level. In the Eltham district some men are down to as low as 18s fid per week. One has a sick wife and three children to maintain. “I am very much concerned about the position and I am forwarding to the Minister of Labour a telegram as follows: “J Itham’s allocation is being systematically reduced each week and now some married men with families are receiving only the equivalent to 4| days a month. Many are on the point of starvation and the position is becoming impossible. I strongly urge that our allocation be r mtained to fulfil the legal requirements of men qualifying for work an certified by local government officers.” NATIONAL DAFFODIL SHOW.
