CYCLE ROAD RACING
SOLE WINS WAITARA EVENT. Under the auspices of the Waitara Cycle and Athletic Club a road cycle race was held on Saturday. It started at Waitara and the route lay via Egmont Road, Bell Block, Egmont Village, Inglewood. Mountain Road and back . to Waitara, about 30 miles. Of 21 entrants only eight started and no doubt the depletion of the ranks was due to the counter attraction at New Plymouth. „ The starters were Roy Sole and H. Yardlev ser., C. Gilbert and J. W igg 2|min, H. Eva smin, G. Tuffery and M. Wiley 7min, and W. Lowe Bmin. The race provided a splendid finish. Coming into the town from Big Jim’s Hill six of the riders were bunched and the other two were not far behind. Nearing the finish a great tussle ensued between Roy Sole and Roy Yardley for first place, the former winning by a length. Other placings were M. Wiley third and H. Eva fourth. Roy Sole gained fastest time, doing the distance in 1 hour 27min. Iflscc. The scratch men caught the leaders at Waiongona.
