WORK IN NORTH TARANAKI THIS SEASON’S COMPETITIONS. -■ CONDITIONS ADOPTED. The annual meeting of the North Taranaki Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs was held at New Plymouth on Saturday, when there were present Messrs. A. E. Washer (in the chair), J. M. Smith, H. C. Sampson, A. T. Moore, J. H. Allen, C. Haines, H. Trimble, D. Mackay, W. Dill Mackay, T. Wilson, A. S. Harper, A. Turnbull, W. K. Morris, F. W. Sutton and W. P. Okey (secretary). The balance sheet showed that receipts had totalled £67 2s lOd, the principal items being donations £ll 3s 6d, Government subsidy 7 £4O, produce mart £l4 5s Id, sale of produce at winter show £1 14s 3d. ’ Expenditure totalled £66 8s 6d, including trophies, certificates etc., £32 0s lid, ear tags (less sales £1 0s Set) £4 9s 4d, celluloid badges £2 Ils 4d, cartage calves to championship £l6, field day (£l2 Ils 8d less receipts £8 15s 9d) £3 l’ss lid, advertising and printing £7 Us. There was a credit balance of 14s 4d. In reply to a letter from the Egmont Village School Committee it was’ decided°that the date (October 2) selected for the presentation of prizes, including the Trimble Shield, would be suitable to the committee, which would endeavour to attend. . The, standard value to be placed on foods for calf rearing during the coming season was adopted. It was resolved that the crops to be grown this year ''be mangolds and swedes. The work this year will again be of an experimental nature. In all cases where calves are not otherwise definitely identifiable ear tags must be used. The Agricultural Society is to. be recommended. to appoint Messrs. A. S. Harper (Egmont Village), M. Goldsbury (Lower Mangorei) and C. A. Bott (Okato) as teachers’ representatives on the executive. The Taranaki Education Board forwarded a cheque for £5 as this year’s contribution to the club’s funds. Mr. Duncan Mackay reported that another branch of the calf rearing competition had been started in the Tainui district. A very enthusiastic meeting had been held at Mahoenui on Friday night at which the competition had been launched, and. he thought that in a year or two root growing competitions would also be introduced. _ Awakino would be the centre. Ultimately that group might be brought under the North Taranaki Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs, but meanwhile it would arrange its own finance. With the exception of a few schools in the Whangamomona district practically all schools in Taranaki were taking part in competitions. It was decided, that pedigree calves be judged at the schools, and that the committee when on its itinerary go into the matter of economical transport to the championship field day at Waiwakaiho. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. W. C. Weston for having donated prizes to various classes, also to various schools, branches of the Farmers’ Union, Department of Agriculture, Taranaki Education Board all for financial support, donors of produce, etc., for the annual mart and those who conducted the mart, to the judges of the various competitions, to the local supervisors, to school teachers for the keen interest they took in the movement, and to any others whose help had been given.
