AN AWFUL THOUGHT.
“PORK-PIE” HATS. i The “pork-pie” or “pill-box” hat that has been so much discussed latcy was inspired by the modes in the revised version of ‘‘La Vie Parisienne” now running in Paris, and a phenomenal success is predicted for it states a fashion writer in the Daily Mail. It has the stiff sides of the messenger boy’s cap and a softish top that takes the shape of the head. The sides vary from Ifin. to 2£in. in depth, but the soft crown is supposed to save it from that too-shallow, wooden look, that is so dreaded in this type oi millinery. A new style of hairdressing has already been evolved to suit the forwardtilted “bowler.” All one has to do now is to rearrange one’s face to the “Vie Parisienne” lines demanded by the pork pie. The blank, mask-like visages that have been cultivated of late can be put away with the wool-work mats that have served as hats for so long. Chic women are hastening to acquire the vivacious, lively and intelligent expression of Mlle. Jane Marnac. These new “pork-pies” are worn tilted very decidedly sideways and forward so that they touch the right eyebrow at one point. The hair should be arranged as for the “bowler” that is worn in the same way. The hair is drawn back from the left side of the face and slightly waved so that it appears to form a continuous swirl round the head. Many of the new hats are trimmed with small feather mounts, and others have straps of ribbon tied under the chin of leather buckled at the side of the face.
