FINANCES OF WELLINGTON
COMMISSION TO MAKE INQUIRY. ITS REPORT TO BE MADE PUBLIC. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, September 18. The city council decided to set lip a commission to investigate thoroughly the organisation and finances of the corporation, and a committee was appointed to select the personnel of the commission. A motion has been adopted that the council forthwith set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the whole matter of the organisation and finances of the Wellington City Council and the trading departments, such commission to consist of an expert, a public accountant and an engineer, and such commission to have full powers to examine, investigate and question various members of the city council staff and have access to all city council records and books; that the council' shall delegate to the commission power to make such recommendation as it thinks justified, and that a copy of the report be handed to the Press.
