The Stratford Amateur Operatic Society will present its wonderfully successful musical comedy “Play Your King” at the Eltham Town Hall on Monday. ’ This is. the best effort of the society, and the.public has recognised this in no uncertain manner. Crowded houses have greeted King Mitzlm of Boronia on each of his appearances upon the stage, and his audiences have laughed at his royal progress through a series of hawraising adventures and his adroitness in love. The Eltham public will appreciate his Majesty, fully as much as have the public in other towns, for he possesses a big retinue of sterling performers with him. “Play Your King” is the best thing in cheerful entertainment which has been seen for a very long. time. . KING’S THEATRE. “M ANSLAUG HTER.” In 1;922 Alice Duer Miller , wrote a ‘‘best-seller” novel, “Manslaughter." - Cecil B. de Mille produced it as a silent moving picture with Thomas: Meighan and Leatrice Joy in the; leading roles. Both the book and the picture 'Were-sen-sations. Now Paramount has ‘ transferred the thrilling drama oL “Manslaughter” to the talking screen. Claudette Colbert and Fredstc March play the leading roles in this audible moving picture which George Abbott adapted and directed. Brought up to date, inspired with Abbott’s genius, “Manslaughter” is even more of a sensation on the talking screen than it was either as a novel or as a silent picture. “Manslaughter,” which opens a four-day. run at the King’s Theatre, starting this afternoon, is richly produced and filled with speed and vivid verve of the new-day children of wealth. It opens among the play-boys and gay girls who ride and swim and make merry in the society whirl. . It turns to the serious side of life, as tragedy grips the most daring and carefree of these gorgeous people. It develops into a tremendous conflict of love and hate, with a handsome young attorney pitting his strength against the wilfulness of a ■ beautiful girl.
