Mr. A. E. Hansford said that domestic servants were exempt, and he saw no reason why the lower-paid nurses should not be relieved of the levy. On the advice of the secretary of th© Hospital Boards’ Association that the emergency- unemployment tax of 3d in the £1 was to be deducted from the total remuneration for an employee’s services, including valuation of free board and lodgings, Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., moved a resolution of protest against what he considered an imposition.

It was decided to forward the resolution to the Government.
