MYSTERY OF BIG EXPLOSION
CHILDREN STILL ENTOMBED
WRECKAGE BLOCKS STREET
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 12.30 a.m. Paris, Aug. 14
A large tenement house in a suburb of Lyons was wrecked by a mysterious explosion at 2.30 this morning. The building was occupied by Franco-Span-ish and Algerian working-class families, of whom thirty were buried in the ruins.
Firemen rescued twelve who were sent to hospital. They also recovered five bodies but ten children are believed to be still entombed in the wreckage, which blocked the street.
Rescuers heard the horrifying cries of the victims trapped in the ruins. Doors and windows were blown out by the explosion and glass was splintered 50 yards from the scene.
