“GHOSTS” IN CHURCH
CONGREGATION’S FEARS. London, Aug. 6. Terrified by mysterious noises frequently heard from the church organ at Copford, Essex, the villagers recalled that the church had been raided centuries ago by marauding Danes, who had been caught, flayed alive, and burned, and whose skins had been tanned and fastened to the doors, where they remain. The superstitious refused to enter the church. The rector, however, called in an organ expert, who reported that the noises caine from pipes disarranged by the recent earthquake.
