OFFER TO RECOVER JEWELS
THIEF’S SENTENCE DEFERRED. £3OOO ROBBERY AT DUNEDIN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Aug. 14. The unusual request that before being .sentenced he should be given an opportunity of trying to recover some of the stolen property was made to Mr. Justice Kennedy by William Newton, who appeared for sentence on a charge of breaking and entering. Newton was concerned in the sensational robbery of jewellery from Dawson’s, from which firm jewellery valued at £3OOO was stolen, Accused’s mate, Wilson, was previously sentenced to four year’s imprisonment in Connection with the same offence. Newton said he would assist the police in endeavouring to recover some of the stolen property. It was rather a difficult task, but he thought he could recover, feome of'it.
