DEPARTING RESIDENTS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday evening a very jolly surprise party organised by the members of the Tikorangi Tennis Club visited Air. and Mrs. Palmer’s residence to bid them farewell on the eve of their departure from ' the district. The evening was filled in with cards and music, and after supper Air. H. Foreman, president of the club, on behalf of the members expressed regret at the departure of Air. and Mrs. Palmer. Air. Palmer was one of the leading players of the club, ho said, and the members fully realised their loss. Mrs. Palmer, though not a playing member, had taken a ve jy active part in the social side of the game, and her loss would be felt ve.y greatly indeed. Air. Foreman presented Air. Palmer with a pocket wallet and Mrs. Palmer with a silver cake stand,, and conveyed to them the club’s best wishes for their success in the new district to which they were going. Air. Palmer, in thanking the members for their kindness, said he was sorry to be leaving Tikorangi as it. meant the severing of many happy associations with the club. Airs. Palmer also thanked those present for their kind gift and said it had always been a pleasure to her to assist in any of the social activities of the club. The singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows,” and “Auld Lang Syne,” brought a very happy evening to a close.
