INTOXICATED DRIVER
CRASHED INTO FENCE. THEN RAN OVER BANK. Palmerston North, Aug. 3. •’ For being intoxcated while in charge of a car, Frank D’Arcy, a motor salesman, of Wanganui, was fined £lO by Mr. J. H. Salmon in the Palmerston North Police Court this morning, and his license was cancelled for three months.
That D’Arcy had been seen by a constable at a late hour in The Square under the influence of liquor and leaning out of a window in his car was the evidence given by Senior-Sergeant Whitehouse. The sergeant said that D’Arcy had later collided with a fence when attempting to turn into Te Awe Awe Street. Later he had run into a bank on the Fitzherbert Road and had been considerably cut. Mr. Rodgers, who appeared for defendant, asked for leniency on account of defendant’s position. The damage to the fence alone, he said, would cost defendant in the vicinity of £BO. His Honour said that under the circumstances he would cancel defendant’s license for three months instead of six.
