FALL 200 FEET DOWN CLIFF
WORKMAN SLIPS FROM ROPE.
TRAGEDY ON GALATEA ROAD.

A fatal accident occurred at the Galatea Road construction works yesterday, when a workman, L. Tehaara, a married man, aged about 26 tyears, fell from the top of a cliff to the roadway 220 feet below. The men were working with life-lines and Tehaara desired to lengthen his line. He climbed up a rope and on reaching the top tripped and fell, the body landing on the roadway alongside a mate with whom he was working a few minutes previously. Tehaara was transferred recently from the railway works at Gisborne. An inquest was opened last night and adjourned sine die.
