LABOUR MEMBER CHARGED
SPEECHES ON GLASGOW GREEN. AMAZING SCENES AT COURT. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyriaht. London, July 31. Scenes unprecedented in the history of the Scottish Courts marked the opening of the trial of J. McGovern, Labour M.P., and a number of “tram preachers” and Communists, who were charged with speaking without a permit on the Glasgow Green. Crowds entered the court preceded by a preacher bearing a Cross, which he refused to remove. Hymn singing followed until the magistrate’s arrival, whereupon McGovern and his comrades stood up and led the boisterous singing of “Stand up, stand up, for Jesus.” The magistrate ordered the court to be cleared. One defendant was fined 60s or 20 days and the remainder of the cases were adjourned. McGovern was recently suspended in the House of Commons after a disturbance in which ho was ejected.
