INCREASE OF £5208.
PROVISION FOR RECRUITS.
The allocations in the Government's estimates for naval defence total £5208 more than the expenditure folia st year. 'The amount proposed to be \oted for H.M.S. Diomede shows an increase of about £40,000, but that for the Dunedin is down by a similar amount. The Philomel’s allocation is £37,000, which includes pay of ratings serving in H.M.S. Wakakura and provision for the training of 67 recruits. Under the heading of repairs £2500 is set aside for the Diomede and £78,000 for the Dunedin, the latter figure being th.A estimated by the Admiralty as New Zealand’s share of the cost of ’large repairs. The amount provided for oil fuel for tanks and ships is increased by £27,000, and this includes the oil for the Dunedin on both the homeward and outward journeys.
