ALLIANCE AREA MEETING. There was a large attendance on. Wednesday of representatives from various parts of the Egmont'electorate to. an area convention of the New Zealand Alliance undei- the auspices of the Tara-naki-Wanganui area. The Rev. J. R. Nelson (Kaponga) presided and extended a welcohie to the visiting delegates. The speaker stressed the need for optimism in connection with the forthcoming poll. After the opening devotional exercises an address was given by the Rev.' H. G. Goring, Wanganui, which was followed by a statement concerning the political policy of the Alliance introduced by Mr. I. AL Dixon, area organiser of Wanganui., The Rev. J. Patterson, Wanganui, gave an address. on organisation which was followed by a general discussion. Afternoon tea was dispensed by members of the Kaponga Methodist Ladies’ Guild, j -At a meeting of parishioners in the church on Tuesday evening preliminary | arrangements were made for the annual spring flower show. The seventh night of the St. Mark’s Anglican Church euchre tournament was held in. the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening, when there was a fail' attendance. Prizes for the evening .were donated by Mrs. J. P, Gibson and Mr. R. E. Williams and were won by Mr. Clift Tait and Mrs. J. H. Tyack. The hidden number prizes were won by Mr. Roy Herbert and Mrs. E. Boyle. ”, ; A general meeting of members of the Kaponga Football Club was held on Wednesday evening, the president, Mr. Dan Malone, presiding. Hill were appointed joint secretaries. At Victoria Park on Thursday afternoon the, Kaponga ladies’ hockey team played the Stratford Old Girls, at .whose hands they suffered a beating by 9 to 1. Having won the toss the home team elected to play downhill, and from the bully-off the visitors put plenty of energy into the game, and had considerably the better of the argument during the.first spell. Their splendid combination of good stead. The,visitors shot two goals both backs and forwards stood them in in the first spell but they were unlucky not to have added to this as several dan-gerous-looking attempts at goals went rather wide. Upon resuming after halftime, with a westerly breeze behind them : and the advantage of down-hill play, the' visitors continued the good work, scoring seven more goals. The home team were also playing one member short, but they continued to battle on and shortly before the end, from a good hit from the centre-half, Mrs. Carrington, the ball was taken up by the forward 7 line, and after being passed out to the left wing, D. Allan, was carried by her into the circle, where a shot at goal by the same player was successful, and thus was scored the home team’s only goal. The goals for the visitors were scored by Misses B. Watkins (3), E. Irvine (4), and L. Wickham (2). Mr. K. Pennington refereed. . The boxing tournament to be held in the Kaponga town hall on Thursday ( evening. under the auspices of the Ha- t wera Boxing Association promises to be very interesting. Amateur bouts have < been arranged between Johns (Inaha) v. ! Finlay (Waitara), Low (Waitara) and - Neustroski (Stratford), Talbot (Eltham) v. Jarvis (Stratford), Holden (Eltham) ‘ v. Roguski (Stratford), Dombroski (Waitara) v. Clemente (Eltham), Schweiters (Elthani) v. McTaggart (Manutahi), and one more yet to be arranged. One attraction is to be an exhibition by the Taranaki champion Tommy Donovan. ' PERSONAL. Mr. J. H. Bentley is about again after being confined to his bed for two weeks wjth an attack of pleurisy.
