A rat is by Captain Albert Justus for the sinking of his two-mast-ed craft in Baltimore Channel. One life was lost —that of the ship’s cat. Captain Justus, his son, and the crew were picked up by a ship. The schooner started leaking during a 30-mile gale. The hold, laden with oyster shells, filled rapidly despite desperate pumping. Captain Justus said he believed a rat had bored the hole which grew into the leak.
