STUDENTS FIGHT POLICE SHOOTING FROM BARRICADES OUTCOME OF DEPRESSION BLAME CAST ON PRESIDENT 30 KILLED IN DISORDERS By Telegraph—Press Appn.—Copyright. .Rec. 5.5 p.m. Santiago (Chile), July 24. Two thousand anti-Government students 'Withstood the attempt of 10Q0 military police to dislodge them from a campus barricade to-day. The police poured rifle and machine-gun fire against the barricade, the students responding with revolver fire. Several students are reported to have been killed and at least a score were wounded.’ Sympathisers are preparing to call strikes. They are blaming President Ibanez for the nation’s economic • depression. It is officially estimated that 30 have been killed' in disorders throughout Chiie. Meanwhile the oppositionists demand that President Ibanez should resign; otherwise a general strike will be called. Heavily armed forces are keeping order In the capital, although desultory firing is reported in various parts of the city.
