REVIEW OF THE PLAYERS. (By "Left Half”) The hockey trial games are noxv over and the southern representatives have been selected. A gentle reminder to all players to keep fit will do no harm. It depends bn tho fitness of a player and how ho keeps his position whether he gains a place in the representative team to meet Wanganui on August 1 at Wanganui. The trials were a great success, and judging by the way some of the players are getting into form the selectors will have a very difficult task. In commenting on the players it should be remembered that some played Up to form while others did not get into their stride.

Lindle at right wing did not shine on the day but he knows how to keep his place and can put across a good centre. When at his best he will make things hum. Herbert played his best gam® to date and well deserved his place in the team. Ha is a great battler. The Rev. Watson is a fine centre forward. He keeps his place well and when the opening comes he does not lose it. . / . G. Surgcnor is the best inside left in Taranaki, .and is like lighting to grasp an opportunity. Percy at left wing is good and can centre well but did not play up to form on Wednesday. He knows how to keep his place. Moloney is playing at right inside and Is good. Unfortunately he. injured his ankle and could not play on Wednesday. He fights hard all through the game. Oruickshaixlis is a real “find” at half and is improving all the time. He is a splendid half who keeps his place. Duncan - at centre half is the best half in the south and. is sure to stop his man. He is quick- to take advantage, He is “knocking at the door” for a representative game. J. Campbell is a sound half and can be depended on to always play a good game. ■ Bert Ryan was the best fullsback on the ground and he did his work cleanly and well. H. Surgenor also played a splendid game and will stop anything. Thompson was a failure on the day’s play and will have to improve if he wants to get in the representative team. Haynes at goal played well and stopped a lot of hard stuff. He is not afraid to stop them. Keheley at goal did all that was asked of him and is a sure goalie.

Berry (Manaia) played a good game at half back and cbuld stop a train. The team selected to represent the south is a strong one and should do well. They will play in yellow and black colours.
