HIGHWAY FINANCE QUESTION
COMMITTEE FOR INVESTIGATION.
ALLOCATION OF PETROL TAX.

Special notice was given in the Hous* of Representatives to-day that the Government intends to set up a special committee to investigate highways finance and in particular to allocate the petrol tax proceeds to local bodies. This is in accordance with the undertaking given in the 1930 session of Parliament that the whole question of highways finance would be subjected to investigation. It had been intended that the inquiry should take place in the Parliamentary recess.
