GISBORNE WINTER MEETING HANDY TAKES STEEPLECHASE. THE FLYING TO FREEHOLD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. The Gisborne Racing Club’s steeplechase meeting opened to-day in dull weather with fair attendance. The course was in particularly good condi'tiori. Of five acceptors only two started, Handy and Kariiehameha. After almost completing.a circuit of the course Kamehameha refused to face the jump in front of Hie stand, though he was repeatedly put to it by Mcllroy, and Handy went on and won by a circuit. Eventually Kamehameha took the stand junlp but- then refused the others in BU'ccbfision after repeated attempts. lie completed the course in time to gain second place.
