MANAWATU WINTER MEETING MERRY- DAMON TAKES NEWBURY. McRAE HANDICAP TO MANIFESTO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The Manawatu Racing Club winter meeting concluded in fine, though bleak, weather, with only a fair attendance. The totalisator receipts were ’£7543, as against £14.227 last year. Passing the stands Day Lass had. charge, with Beau Regal and King’s Counsel next. Modestrian fell at the double and Jill Jazz lost RS rider, but there was little alteration, ,Beau Regal dropping back. Hinatore felt three furlongs from home and Day Lass, King’s Counsel and Revel was the order into the straight, King s Counsel finishing, best. Lieutenant Bill was fourth, rangiotu plate. Along the back Royal Black inoyed up to second, and racing' for the straight Cook broke a leg. °Royal Black was leading from Wild Country and Shootist, and the leader was riot troubled to win by two lengths from Wild Country, which was four lengths ahead of- Shootist. The little-fancied Merry Damon tailed the field to the straight but. finished, well to beat Air Laddie by a- short head. , Pahu tvas two lengths. away. Fitzquex and Pahu were the early leaders, Royal Opera coming to the front at the three furlongs and showing the way into the straight with Pahp and Air Laddie next. Pahu made its first effort but was headed by Air Laddie, Merry Damon on the outside successfully - challenging Royal Opera, which, was fourth. Time,-2min. 3 2-5 sec. LONGBURN HURDLES. Gourmet was the early, leader, but Llandudno soon went to the front and won easily. Llyn Du and Callamart followed him over the last fence, but could make no impression and Llandudno won by five lengths, with six lengths between second and third. Time, 3min. 21 2-ssec. VICTORIA HACK HANDICAP. Of 100 sovs. Seven furlongs. 1— NIGHTMARE, 10.12 (B. H. Morris) 1...1 2— ADVENTUS, 10.11 (Ellis) 2 3— KISSLESS, 9.5 (L. H. Morris) .. 3 Also started —7 Potoaforni, 9.11; 5 Thresher, 9.3; 4 Patearoa, 9.0; 6 Acrospire, 9.0; 8 Brown Abbey, 9.0. Brown Abbey, Kissless and Patearoa were- prominent early in the race, Kissless heading into the straight from Patearoa, Brown Abbey, Acrospirc, Nightmare and Adventus, Adventiis drew out but Nightmare challenged and. got up to win by a short head from Adventus. Kissless was third a length behind, and Acrospire was fourth. Time, Imin. 34sec.

MILSON HACK HANDICAP. Of 100 bovs. Six furlongs. 2— BEVERAGE, 9.6 (Tinker) 1 I— TROJAN MELODY, 10.13 (B. H. Morris) 2 3— HYSTRIDE, 9.1 3 Algo started—s Silver Fern, 9.2; 4 Gambler, 9.0; 6 Park Acre, 9.0. Trojan Melody and Beverage were in front all the way, the former turning for home well clear. Beverage, however, was not troubled and won with two and a half lengths to spare from the favourite, with Hystride live lengths back and Park Acre fourth. Time, Imin. J9sec. - McRAE HANDICAP. Morris) 3 Also started—s Juggle, 9.11; 7 Blue Paper, 9.0; 4 Coon Song, 9.0; 6 Sight Draft, 9.0. Goon Song led to the straight from Juggle, Blue Paper, Manifesto and Great Charter. In the run to the judge Manifesto drew out but Arajean from the back challenged and wa<s only a neck away at the post. Great Charter wag half a length further back and Juggle was fourth.
