MANAWATU WINTER MEETING MERRY- DAMON TAKES NEWBURY. McRAE HANDICAP TO MANIFESTO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The Manawatu Racing Club winter meeting concluded in fine, though bleak, weather, with only a fair attendance. The totalisator receipts were ’£7543, as against £14.227 last year. Gourmet was the early, leader, but Llandudno soon went to the front and won easily. Brown Abbey, Kissless and Patearoa were- prominent early in the race, Kissless heading into the straight from Patearoa, Brown Abbey, Acrospirc, Nightmare and Adventus, Adventiis drew out but Nightmare challenged and. got up to win by a short head from Adventus. Morris) 2 3— HYSTRIDE, 9.1 3 Algo started—s Silver Fern, 9.2; 4 Gambler, 9.0; 6 Park Acre, 9.0. Trojan Melody and Beverage were in front all the way, the former turning for home well clear. Beverage, however, was not troubled and won with two and a half lengths to spare from the favourite, with Hystride live lengths back and Park Acre fourth. Time, Imin. J9sec. - McRAE HANDICAP.
