TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

TO-MORROW NIGHT’S BOXING. At a meeting of the- Taranaki Boxing Association last night arrangements for the Taranaki amateur boxing championships to be held in the Coronation Hall to-morrow evening were finalised. Mr. Haddow (Patea) has notified his acceptance of the position of referee, and the following judges were also appointed: Dr. Church, Captain Hunt, Mr. F. J. Eggleton (New Plymouth), Messrs. C. L.'■Mullaney (Inglewood), Simons (Hawera) and C. J. Gardiner (Patea). The selection committee is Messrs; R. Haddow, C. E. Roebuck and S. Simons. Officials were also appointed for Saturday’s tournament. It was also decided to apply for the next New Zealand championships to be held at New Plymouth. Those present at the meeting were Messrs. J. Garcia (chairman), C. E. Roebuck, A. F. Aldie, J. Horlor, V. S. Pruden and E. J. Carr (hon. secretary). Very keen interest is being taken throughout Taranaki in the championships, and there should be some very exciting contests. Those who have witnessed 0 the preliminaries to the main ■professional bouts realise that there is some very promising material in Taranaki. Indeed, many have stated that they have enjoyed some of the preliminary contests better than the main, bouts. To-morrow, starting at 6 o'clock, all the leading Taranaki amateurs, includino- the present champions, will be seen in action, and with every one out to catch the selectors’ eyes there should be “something doing.” The admissioon charge has been fixed very reasonably.
