MODERATE SALE AT ADDINGTON.

FAT CATTLE VALUES ADVANCE.

The entries at the ■weekly market at Addington to-day were again of model ate size, but the inarket was keen in all the major sections, and late rates were well maintained. Store Sheep—A mixed yarding with a free demand for all good classes. Prices were firm at late rates. Values were: Good s.m. half and three-quarterbred ewes to 145., good ewe lambs to. 145., good wether lambs to 125., ordinary wether lambs to Bs., ordinary half bred wethers 7s. 6d. to 9s. 6d., plain halfbied wethers to Bs. 6d., Merino wethers 3s. 3d. to 4s. Gd. ‘ Fat Sheep.—An entry of 4000 he'ad. There was steady and keen demand, and a very good sale resulted at values equal to those ruling last week. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 245. 7d., prime heavy 18s. to 20s. 6d., medium 14s. Gd. to 17s. Gd., light 10s. to 145., extra prime ewes to 21s. 7d., prime 15s. to 18s., medium Ils. to 145., light Bs. to 10s.. Fat Cattle.—Au entry of 355 head, including several . consignments from Southland, Otago aud North Otago. The quality was improved generally. It was a keen sale throughout, and there was an advance on last market of 10s. and up to £1 a head. Best quality beef made 30s. to 345. per 1001 b., and in odd cases 355., good prime beef 255. to 295,, secondary beef 20s. to 245., and rough down to 16s. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to, £l5 17s. Gd., prime heavy £ll 10s. to £l4, prime medium weight £9 to £ll, ordinary quality £6 10s. to £8 10s., light to £6 55., extra prime heifers to £l4 2s. 6d., prime £8 10s. to £lO 55., medium £6 to £B, light to £5 10s., extra prime cows to £l2 17s. Gd., prime £7 10s. to £9 10s., medium £5 10 s. to £7, light to £5.

Fat Pigs. —A medium entry, and the demand throughout a little better. Choppers 50s. to £6 18s. Gd., baconers 38s. 6d. to 565. 6d., heavy baconers £2 19s. Gd. to £3 155.; average price per lb., 4Jd. to 5Ad.; porkers 325. to 38s. 6d., heavy potkers 41s. 6d. to 455. Gd.; average price per lb. s£d. to GJ.d VALUES FIRM AT WESTFIELD. RISE IN FAT SHEEP PRICES. Auckland, July 22. About one half of last week’s offering of beef cattle of all classes was penned' at the weekly Westfield fat stock sale to-day. Prices for extra choice bx were maintained at approximately late rates ■at 245. per 1001 b. Choice ox firmed slightly to make 225. to 235., while choice cow and heifer beef advanced to 245.

Sheep values again showed an increase, extra prime heavy wethers making up to 235. 3d., a rise of 2s. 9d. on late quotations. Prime ewes sold from 13s. 6d. to 18s. Gd., others bringing Bs. to 13s. Lambs sold readily at late rates. Calves were short yarded, with values up for good quality kinds. Runners brought from 475. to 100 s., and vealers from 18s. to 925. There was no demand for inferior or small grades. Pigs again were penned in small numbers. Baconers were easier, and competition was not keen. These made from 60s. io 745. Porkers were sought and prices firmed, rates showing 50s. to 665. for well-finished pigs. Stores were sold at late rates. JOHNSONVILLE’S STEADY SALE. LAMBS IN GOOD DEMAND. Wellington, July 22. Prices at Johnsonville to-day were steady except for ewes, which were ■slightly easier. There was an average yarding of all classes of stock. The quality of . the cattle yarding was not up to the usual standard; • the offering comprised mostly medium-weight Hillocks, with a few pens of heavy prime cattle and some lightweight prime heifers. Competition was good at last week’s rates; wethers and ewes met with fair competition, though ewes were slightly easier as compared with last week’s rates. Laipbs met with a good demand.

At the annual sale of Oakview Friesians, held on account of Messrs. Lichtenstein, Arnoldsc.i and Co., at Patumahoe on Tuesday by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., there was a good attendance of buyers. The condition of the cattle reflected credit on the management, and a good sale resulted. Top price for heifers in calf was 30 guineas paid for Oakview Colantha Dutchland Posch 29, bought by Mr. N J. Sutherland, Clevedon South. This was a particularly attractive heifer sired by the North Island champion bull Posch of Oakview. Nineteen heifers sold

under the hammer averaged 20J guineas, an excellent price under present conditions. There, was not the same competition for the bulls, but Oakview Fobes Sylvia. Echo 29, by Rosevale Korndyke .
