108 YEARS OLD
MAORI WOMAN’S DEATH. REMEMBERED MARSDEN. Auckland, July .22. A Maori woman, Mrs. Elina Kelly, who lived in the Dargaville district for 65 years, and said she was born in 1923, died recently. She was married _ three times and had had a family of 15 children, of whom three ■ are living. There are IS grandchildren, 56 great-grand-children, and five great-great-grand-children. ’ , Two brothers of Mrs. Kelly named Ferguson are living at the Bay of Islands. Mrs. Kelly was born at Russell, and she often said that she remembered the Rev. Samuel Marsden, tho signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, and the opehing of the Anglican Church al Waimate. Hearing hymns played on the pipe organ at Waimate church was one ofher 'treasured memories. Although afflicted with deafness, Mrs. Kelly retained her other faculties to the last. Amongst her most treasured articles was a pair of ear-rings, the gift of the late Sir George Grey.
