PROPOSED HOCKEY VISIT

OFFER FROM WELLINGTON. The Wellington Hockey Association has offered to play a match against Taranaki on Saturday, August 29, as a concluding game to a tour which it proposes to make. This advice has been received by the Taranaki Hockey Association, and will, be considered at a meeting of the management committee on Monday. The Wellington team will be a strong combination, including several prominent players, and the tour has been arranged to help the game in Hawke s Bay. AWATUNA FARMERS’ DANCE. WINNERS OF FOX-TROT. Mr. Len Matthews and Miss Connie Bailey were the minners of the foxtrot competition held at Awatuna on Wednesday at the dance organised by the Awatuna Farmers’ Union and the W.D.F.U. There were six entrants in the contest and the runners-up were Mr. W. Gower and Miss M. Conaglen. The competition was judged by Miss Peggy Wylds, of Eltham. Mono Carlo dances were won by Mr. Herbert and Miss Hoskin, and Mr. W. Gower and Miss J. Magee. There was a good attendance and a most . enjoyable evening resulted. The music was played by Henderson’s orchestra and extras were contributed by Mr. W. Coxhead, Miss R. Corbett and. Messis Hooker and Brooker. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies, Mesdames R. Bourke, Hughes, Alty, Bailey, Bankhead, Niccols, Corbett, Hutchings and Boyd. Mr. R. Bourke and Mr. H. Davison were .the M.’sC. , PERSONAL AND GENERAL. Mr. T. A. Bridge, Manaia, has received a cablegram stating that his youngest son, Mr. R. E. Bridge, has passed his F.R.C.S. examination at Edinburgh University. He has now an appointment at the 'Glasgo r • Hospital. He was a pupil at the Manaia Public ■School. 1 Mr. P. Ingram, Manaia Road, Kapuni, accompanied by Mr. F. Wilson, Kaponga, left yesterday morning on a motor tour of the Waikato and Rotorua districts. Pihama Ladies’ Hockey Club beat Auroa by four goals to one on Wednesday. AUROA NOTES. The congratulations of the district are extended to Mr. Brian Davies on his gaining his air pilot’s A license under a severe weather test. Mr. B. Davies is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Davies, Auroa Road. The ingleside to-night promises to be a huge success, with leading talent of Hawera assisting.
