CONSUMPTION OF POWER

STEADY INCREASE SHOWN.

AUCKLAND PROVINCE READINGS, i

Hamilton, July 21.

The consumption of electrical current in the power board districts in- the Auckland province is steadily increasing. Readings taken recently throughout the district show that the number oi unite which passed through the transformer stations in the Thames Valley, Waitemata, Central, Cambridge, Waitomo, Bay of Plenty, Te Awamutu and Franklin’ Power Board areas is 92 in excess of the number recorded for the corresponding period last year. - The summer readings also show a corresponding increase in the quantity of power consumed. Since the new 15,000-kilowatt station was put into operation by the Auckland Power Board at King’s wharf a few weks ago, the Public Works Department has drawn from the Auckland Board for a small quantity of current. The amount will be increased as the new dairying season advances. Power from Auckland wi” be needed until the Arapuni station is again in operation. The. 1500-kilowatt steam plant, winch was removed by the department from Waihi and installed at Huntly, is working satisfactorily and is enabling the Central Power Board to supply the Waikato Coal Carbonisation Company’s works at Rotowaro with the power required.//
