ATHLETIC CLUB’S DANCE
SUCCESSFUL HAWERA FUNCTION. Pretty decorations and novel lighting effects transformed St. Joseph’s Hall, Hawera, last night for the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club’s dance. A large attendance spent a pleasant time till the early hours of tlie morning to the strains provided by the eight instruments of Wills’ band, which was comfortably ensconced on the stage behind a curtain of streamers. The decorations were largely in the club’s colours of red and black and were effective chiefly in their simplicity. The lamps shaded by tiny Chinese lanterns of many colours shed a softly diffused light, while floodlights and spotlights also contributed to the pretty illumination. Novelties of all description kept the fun going, while one beautiful dance was in an artificial snowfall, the flakes dropping daintily from tfle roof to the crowded floor beneath. Much of the undoubted success of the function was duo to the work of the secretary, Mr. R. Lcndrum, who received excellent support from Messrs. J. Dredge, S. A. Lay, A. E. Stevens and p. Linkhorn, Mrs. T. J. Allan, Misses I. Ritter, M. Ritter and N. Adams, Mr. P. Linkhorn was in charge of the refreshment stall.
