In the Empire billiards championship tournament the first match between Hayes (Australia) and Hackett (Npw Zealand) resulted in an easy victory for Hayes. The final scores were: Hayes 2000 (including breaks of 40 and 43); Hackett 1101 (including breaks, of 07 and 41). The New Zealander made mapy clever shots but was not so skilled as his opponent in positional control. His 97 included a run of nursery Cannons. ' The second game between Sid Lee (British champion) and H. C. Goldsmith (Australia) is in progress, the scores being: Lee (566 (including breaks of 130 and 115); Goldsmith 371 (including breaks of 50 and 38).
