DEBATING SOCIETY MEETS
A LITERARY SUBJECT. The third debate of the New Plymouth Debating Society was held last night, when the motion was “That modem British Literature is inferior to that tit the Victorian Age.” Mr. H. Dempsey presided and Mr. J. Leggat adjudicated. The motion was supported by Mem*. Quirk (leader) and C. Strombom and was opposed by Messrs. C. Downes and S. G. H. Hoben. Following these speeches the subject was discussed by other members of the society!, the leaders made their replies and Mr. Leggat announced the results of his adjudication.
