DAIRYING SEASON

AUCKLAND PRODUCTION. INCREASE FOR TEN MONTHS. Although there was a substantial decline in the quantity of butter-fat produced in the Auckland Province during April, the figures for the first 10 months of the current dairying season compare more than favourably ’with the average output of recent years. The production to date this season is 120,817,0001 b, which is more than 3,900,0001 b in excess of the previous year, an increase of 3.2 per cent. The returns for April show a fallingoff of 2,909,0001 b, or 26.7 per cent, when compared with the production in March, but a decrease is usual at this time of the year, and should continue until the close of the season next month. In April, 1930, the production was 1,956,0001 b, or 19.7 per cent., greater than in April, 1931, but the late summer and early autumn conditions last year were .more favourable to prolonged production. Taking a round figure return of one shilling a pound butter-fat, this season’s output in the province to date is worth approximately £6,291,000. The following table shows the details of production of butter and cheese in the Auckland Province in terms of butter-fat for the first 10 months of the current dairying year, compared with those of the correspond-
