TARANAKI HOCKEY
CHALLENGE FOR WINTER SHIELD. TRIAL GAMES ARRANGED. The Taranaki Hockey Association s management committee met on Wednesday at Hawera, Mr. A. R. Gower presiding. It was decided to challenge Wanganui for the Winter Shield and to arrange a representative junior game as a curtain-raiser. Trial matches between two teams each from the Wednesday and Thursday divisions are to be held at a date to be fixed for the purpose of selecting a north and a south team to play in a final representative selection game. It was also decided to play a B grade senior game' as a curtain-raiser on the day of°the north v. south match. It was decided to get into touch with Eltham, Kaponga and Waitara with a view to arranging some of the competition games at Inglewood, the object beincr to encourage the formation of a club°in that district. Mr. C. J. McFadyen and Mr. V. F. Winter were authorised to arrange a trial match of the Wednesday division at Patea during jubilee week. Permission was given the second Hawera juniors to enter the competition. Messrs. V. F. Winter, T. M. Miller (Wednesday), A. R. Gower and 0. J. Pennington (Thursday), were appointed to select junior representatives.
