CLOTHES DRIVE PLANNED

ARRANGEMENTS FOR SATURDAY. i ■ Arrangements are well in hand for the monster clothes drive to be held next Saturday, between 8 a.in. and noon, when every house in New Plymouth will be visited. Fifty ears are required, and all car’ owners wishing to assist are asked to notify Messrs. R. Day, J. doll, or the secretary, so that the districts' can be allocated. Arrangements have been made for local depots at the -tram shelters at David Street, Moturoa, Belt Road, Hobson Street and Strandon, and at Mr. Dalgleish’s garage, Wallace- Place, and Mr. F. E. Cooper’s garage, Carrington Road, where a responsible person will be in charge. There is an urgent need for boys’ and men’s clothing, boots and shoes and bedding. All gifts are to be taken to the 'Soldiers’ Club, which will be the central receiving station, and where provision is being made for sterilising, sorting and storing. It is hoped to collect sufficient goods to tide over the winter, and the distribution will be under the control of the New Plymouth Relief Society, comprising the Mayor, Messrs. Stainton, Sccats, McKay, Adjutant McKenzie, Mrs. Patrick and Sisters Corkill and Gill. Householders can materially assist by having all gifts ready and, if possible, wrapped. Country sympathisers can assist by donating clothing or foodstuffs, and are asked to leave that in any garage on Friday, June 19, when arrangements -will be made, for collecting. A further meeting of all helpers will be .held, this afternoon in the borough Council Chambers at 5 o’clock.
